  • Like architectural drawings, all STATE frame designs begin with a hand drawn sketch. In drawing each frame, we study the fluidity of lines and find ourselves paying homage to the rich architectural history of Chicago. In this case, Central Park is inspired by the grandiose Garfield Park Conservatory. As we move into production, this study reveals itself as a series of cut-outs, revealing richly-colored layers of acetate. This labor-intensive process involves polishing the frame, milling and sandblasting it to reveal new layers of its acetate, then hand polishing the top layer again. Not only does it create an eye-catching effect in the new lines that are created, but adds a subtle contrast in matte and lustrous finishes.
